Link vs Darklink

"People need to lighten up a bit..."

submission: Link vs Darklink
date: June 27, 2005

This is a very good entry. Sure its DBZ influenced, but its also atmospheric. You're one of the few people who actually attempt to create Hyrule as a large land mass. The scenes where Link is simply riding to his destination is quite possibly the most Zelda-like thing on Newgrounds.

I think its odd that in your reviews, people are willing to give 10's to Mario flashes where he's holding a set of automatics or a Lesbian Zelda.

Yet they are willing to throw a zero as soon as something looks like DBZ despite the awesome presentation you give at the beginning(not to mention the impressive cliff jumping scene) or the fact that you used the Uni-Link mask in an OOT setting.

Brunk's Zelda Collection

"That could've been any series"

date: June 15, 2005

The only reason this got above a two was because it had the Z name in it. You could've thrown in any series and it still would've ended up the same. If this actually used original characters, it probably would've been blammed or close to it.

Author's Response:

It could've ended up the same?

Riiight. Zelda is the only popular game I can think of featuring a character who pushes open tombstones to reveal ghosts and grottos... It's also the only game I can think of with a man who runs laps around the main level for no reason.

Alright, let's say I made three cartoons using the same exact plot as the ones you saw, only with ORIGINAL or non-Zelda characters instead? I bet you'd go apeshit and label this as a blatent rip-off of aspects from Zelda!

Oh yeah, nice little "blammed or close to it" remark, seeing how by the time you wrote this review, my cartoon made it past judgement with a score above 3.

Wow, you're a sharp one, aren't you!?

Warrior Boarder 2

"Not as good as the first..."

submission: Warrior Boarder 2
date: June 12, 2005

I enjoyed the first Warrior Border better. I think its because the main charm of the first was the constant moving of the skater while this one tended to have a few breaks here and there. Although this one is better coreographed(sp?).

Another New Bunny

"Wow, all you did was add one new character"

submission: Another New Bunny
date: June 12, 2005

But it works :). I thought it was hilarious. Some people prefer the other but I like this one better because it takes a different perspective on WB cashing out but still depicts the same idea that the other one had.

Angel Trailer

"Okay, first off..."

submission: Angel Trailer
date: June 8, 2005

I am so sick of hearing people say "tell me if I should continue this."

First off, a good flash takes a serious amount of time, some people take months before submitting. You should be creating a flash because you enjoy it, not because other people tell you to do so or not to do so. Unless its homework, I sure as hell wouldn't want to waste 2 months of my precious time working on something that I wasn't very interested in or delay something that I want to do but can't.

Now that's out of the way.

The graphics, were surprisingly pleasant. There's alot of good color tone and well place usage of the gradient tool. However the lack of a good background really hurts the graphics score.

Normally polygon type characters seem generic with the exception of robot and mech animation. I don't know if your character is organic or what, but this design works.

I can tell you got the tree from the Tree Tutorial on Newgrounds (nothing wrong with that, because its an excellent guide and I'm using it right now for some forestry elements.)

I wish I can say more but I just got back from a long midnight shift.

Here is some advice,
-The world isn't going to end, take your time on your flash and don't feel like you have to finish it in two weeks or so.

-I have some tutorials under Favorite animations on my profile, I've found them extremely helpful and you will too.

-Never EVER say "If you really want me to, I'll finish it". I don't care how many authors say that on teasers. That just tells the audience that you haven't worked on anything passed a trailer and will brush off your work as another failed trailer.
---NOTE: If you want my opinion, If you like your concept, got ideas, and know how to execute them, than you know my answer.

I wish you good luck in the future.

Character Tutorial

"Information far to basic..."

submission: Character Tutorial
date: June 8, 2005

You taught us how to draw a face, not a character.

For instance, how do you know if the head is proportional to the body? What does a 3/4, back or even side view of a head look like. Even the most basic flashes use more than one perspective.

Finally, you need to show how to draw women or even the difference between a female shell and a male.

Its not a bad tutorial, and it is basic, but this is just too basic.

Next time, I suggest adding more meat to your tutorial.

Author's Response:

Yea I was in a rush to finish it, but its a start for people who have no idea how to draw a face.

KH: Cloud vs Sephiroth 2

"Compared to the first part, this is horrible"

date: June 4, 2005

Your first part actually had atmosphere, a background, and the characters actually acted like they did on the games. It wasn't the greatest but it was a good effort. And I'll proudly admit you had a very cool looking loader.

This one pales greatly in comparison. In a fightscene, no one just wants to see heads reacting to the blades; they want to see the bodies fight. It just seemed like such a generic fight.

Than there is Sephiroth. Doesn't need to look like a badass all the time but having him making goofy faces like Vash the Stampede is just terrible.

I think the problem that you have is that you don't have a good concept of the human anatomy. Sure you can draw heads, but animation cannot rely solely on facial expressions alone.

My suggestion is that the next time you create a flash, focus more on drawing simpler animations. For instance, Cloud's running animation was terrible. Work on how to walk before you try running.

Fighting animations are difficult. The amount of flash tricks involved are insane, especially if its a non stick movie.

Props though for finishing your movie. Most people would've just tossed their work when feeling bored. Although if you think the flash was half assed, you should expect people to give assy comments.

Anyways, I suggest you look under my profile and under favorite animations. I've collected alot of tutorials that may help you.

the best ones are the
-drawing hands/heads for idiots
-Point Perspective Tutorial
-Walking Cycle one
-Particle effect tutorial that is surprisingly easy and should help you on your magic effects next time.

Good Luck

Author's Response:

haha i know what u mean by vash the stampede hahaha! but seriously thanks for ur comments and advice. yea somewhere in the i lost inspiration. yup clouds runnig was terrible i admit. i am guilty of being lazy. sorry. i will do better. oh i agree with u on the loader it was prolly the best part out of both of the movies! hahah. take it easy.

Love You Forever

"Props..."

Unlike alot of other FF7 flashes, you actually made your own without tracing the character art.

A little on the short side, but it was still sweet.

Valhalla Knights

"Too many cliches"

submission: Valhalla Knights
date: May 17, 2005

Wow, that was certainly the most well animated and pretty flash I've seen in a long time. Problems kicked in when it was "Present Day" though.

Cop? Mysterious magical girl who's passed out at least once, father dies and leaves behind mysterious object that will probably grant the guy time traveling/a weapon/ or power.

It was really pretty but at the same time, I couldn't help but to roll my eyes at the dialogue and storyline.

Tree Tutorial

"Excellent tutorial"

submission: Tree Tutorial
date: May 15, 2005

Excellent Layout and excellent instructions that teach you how to draw any tree and not what you showed us. You even go as far to include free trees with this flash.

Any score below a five for this is just wrong.
